If I were limited to only one fly to fish the San Juan, this would be it (sz 22 during Spring and summer and sz 24 during Fall & Winter). This midge pattern utilizes the tying techniques of the Tav's Big Mac and is offered with a shorter shank hook in the smaller sizes found most of the year on the San Juan and other tailwaters. As you can see from the comparison picture above, the segmentation provides the aooearance of a natural midge pupa and it may not take long for this pattern to become a regular in your fly box.
